Feudo di San Maurizio, Sarre (AO) Valle d'Aosta
The San Maurizio vineyard is situated in the small alpine town of Sarre in the Valle d'Aosta, northern Italy.
- Michel Vallet grew up in the small alpine town of Sarre and ran 3 different bars over 20 years before deciding he wanted to try his hand at winemaking. Without any experience, he purchased a plot of vines in 1989 that was so small he just consumed the wine made from them with close friends. Freely admitting that his first vintage was nothing short of disastrous, his second did not prove much better. Jump forward some years later and Michel has become a self-taught, highly revered winemaker who produces wines of incredible character and memorability.
- It was 2017 when I first tasted a wine of his, at a coastal bar in Nervi, Liguria. It made such a strong impression on me that I knew I had to contact the producer directly. Fast forward 4 years (it is Italy, things take time) and we are finally able to add Feudo di San Maurizio to our growing list of boutique wine producers!
- People sometimes ask us how we find the wines we import in the first place? The answer is fairly straightforward: if I weren’t based in Italy for the most part of the year, we would be unlikely to have some of our producers on board with us today! We hope you enjoy the wines as much as we have!
