In 2005 wife and husband team, Marita and Guglielmo Manenti, bought a vineyard that consisted of four hectares under vine, which they tend to themselves, having held a lifelong ambition to produce quality, organic wine in their home region of Vittoria, south eastern Sicily.
It is here, in the province of Ragusa (shout out to all the Montalbano fans), where the vineyards are planted in the traditional bush vine system, with 6000 vines per hectare. The age of the vines varies from 20 to 40 years. The soil, a mixture of both sand and clay, reaches so deep that no irrigation is ever needed; the clay endows the wine with longevity and acid extract, whilst the sand gives the wine delicacy and softness.
Manenti practices biological farming with minimal intervention in the vineyard. 2006 was their first vintage to be released.
Total production amounts to 10,000 bottles per annum.
