- Frappato is an indigenous red grape variety from Sicily, specifically the south-east, some 20 kilometres west of the pretty baroque city of Ragusa.
- This bottling comes from the Manenti farm, a smallholding of around 5 hectares in Bastonaca, an area renowned for the cultivation of both Frappato and Nero d’Avola. The environment here – the ‘terra’ - consisting of naturally red sandy-calcareous iron-rich soils and the extreme variations in temperature between day and night draw out the truest expression of this grape variety.
- Naturally low in tannins but with a fresh acidity, expect generous fragrances of bright red fruits, violets and Mediterranean shrubs.
- On the palate, notes of rose petal, strawberries and black cherries, while there’s a lingering hint of cedar spice on the back palate, and a brisk, persistent finish.
- Light to medium in body, Frappato can either be enjoyed on its own or with tomato-based pasta dishes such as Sicilian favourite ‘pasta alla norma’.
