- Not far from the southern reaches of Chianti Classico, lies the commune of Montalcino, the iconic Tuscan town that seems to perch on a ledge. About a 25-mile drive south of Siena, the climate begins to shift from the damper, cooler continental climate of Chianti Classico to a much dryer, hotter, altogether more Mediterranean environment.
- Another factor that separates these two neighbourly regions is the soil, with Montalcino generally containing more limestone and sand. These differences, along with the superiority of the Brunello clone, make Brunello di Montalcino the most powerful Sangiovese around.
- Along with Barolo and Barbaresco, Brunello di Montalcino has become an Italian heavyweight, sought after by wine collectors the world over because of its depth of flavour and tongue-curling tannins lending it the potential to age for decades.
- This ‘cru’ bottling was presented for the very first time at the Benvenuto Brunello 2020, held in the February of the same year, as part of the anteprima tasting, an annual event that’s dedicated to showcasing the latest vintage wines from a number of highly esteemed estates from in and around Montalcino.
- Le Benducce 570 is a single vineyard that is aptly located at 570 metres asl. marking the wine, especially in very hot vintages, with a trademark finesse that one comes to expect from premium Brunello production. Blessed with long daylight hours and consistent daytime temperatures, the grapes reach peak, optimum ripening conditions, whilst at night, the opposing temperatures make sure the grapes are kept nice and cool, retaining that much-needed, natural acidity. Using only the best grapes for production, the wines are cultivated using a supervised pest control method, as well as organic fertilisers and the elimination of herbicides.
- Yields are kept low (60ql/ha) allowing for an elegant, distinguished wine that perfectly reflects its unique territory and tradition.
- Treat yourself with foods such as filet Mignon with garlic mash, or fresh tartare with olive oil, salt, pepper, egg and parsley.
