  • Dolcetto, meaning ‘little sweet one’, is somewhat misleading as it's rarely ‘little and sweet’. This red wine is brimming with red cherry fruit and soft strawberry jam, is the juiciest and fruitiest of the Piedmont reds and tends to be drunk young and enjoyed in simple, everyday occasions. This versatility makes Dolcetto a popular choice and in its home region nearly every trattoria  has several producers on their wine list. High in tannins but low on acidity, this will pair nicely with ripe cheeses and rich sauces like Carbonara or Bolognese.
  • Historically, Dolcetto was one of the goods traded between the Piedmontese (in the hills) and the Ligurians (on the coast) who, in return, gave them oil, salt and anchovies, the main ingredients in one of the most traditional Piedmontese dishes ‘Bagna Caoda’ (Bagna Cauda).
