A beautiful and complex Nero d’Avola from high altitude vineyards and a calcareous terroir in the countryside near Agrigento in Sicily. This wine has a great amount of depth, finesse and freshness that’s long on the finish - silky smooth tannins balance a nose of fresh cherries that soon evolve into scents of leather and spice. On the palate, a silky texture, solid ripe fruit with a long lasting finish. Decant this for an hour before serving and it just gets even smoother.
Food: As a full-bodied red wine, it partners well with rich, meaty meats and flavours: a succulent roast beef with fluffy Yorkshire puddings would be a perfect match, as would a velvety, unctuous game stew or just break the bread and spear a chunk of local cheese.
Film: Il Leopardo (The Leopard), 1963, directed by Luchino Visconti, the forefather of all Italian directors. An epic costume drama that charts the life of an aristocratic Sicilian family at the time of Italy’s unification.
