‘Man should be a discreet spectator with limited presence in the vineyard’
The philosophy of the Gueli family is to let mother nature take her own course and leave a unique mark on each vintage. The grapes are cultivated near the Valley of the Temples, in Sicily and the farm, at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level, is divided into vineyards and almond orchards; it doesn’t get more romantic than this…
The vineyard was founded in 1986 by Vincenzo Gueli and is today run by his three sons, Giuseppe, Calogero and Davide, who take pride in allowing the vines to be as natural as possible, to find their own equilibrium and produce what they can. There are no chemical fertilizers added to the soil, only green manures are used. Thus, the vines are left to yield their best fruit in their own time and the end result for us is the most delicious Nero d’Avola.
We have chosen this calcareus terroir red made from the indigenous Nero d'Avola grape, one of Italy's most important grapes and the most planted in Sicily, and we are very excited to be promoting this Sicilian vineyard which is representative of the spirit of innovation and experimentation currently sweeping Italy’s wine production.
