“Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” - Mark Twain
I love it when you come across a quote that says it all and captures your mood exactly. I am currently spending a few days in West Cork with two very dear friends. It’s a cliché: we are staying in a charming house by the sea with incredible views across the Atlantic and we are going for walks, exploring small towns, cooking fish, drinking wine and sharing our lives again. I felt the real warmth of the sun as we went for our first walk and it filled me with optimism, positivity and energy and I knew that certain inner obstacles of my own creating were of no consequence. I felt exactly like Mark Twain, if you know what I mean. As soon as I get back I am off again to Verona for Vinitaly – Italy’s biggest wine fair – to meet up with some of our producers and, no doubt, taste a few new wines. And now my eyes are wide open, ready again for the challenge of the new and that is the pattern for April after completely hibernating all winter. That is how I mean to go on.
