The Versilia is the area right along the Tuscan coast in the north-western edge of the province of Lucca. If you head away from the beaches up on the hills that slope towards the Apuan Alps, you will come to an area called Upper Versilia and here you will find Giardini Ripadiversilia, a boutique cantina that occupies a plot of land that is held in high regard for its top-quality Vermentino wines.
Husband and wife team, Giovanni Svetlich and Renza Maria Lacopi, both keen oenologists have been planting their grapes since 1980. What started out as a couple of thousand bottles for family and friends – no labels, no names – turned the corner in 2002 when Giardini Ripadiversilia became a business and it now produces a few, very special wines which gather awards wherever they go.
